Starting and running a business takes more than a good idea
And this is true no matter what type of business or whether it is brick-and-mortar or online!
- Decide if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. The age-old question about starting and running your own business successfully depends on your ability, motivation, attitude, ambition, and energy.

Writing a business plan is necessary to be successful in your business. And, depending upon your reasons for writing it, the amount of required detail changes. For example:
- A business plan that primarily is for your own use, to describe your goals and objectives, will be very brief.
- A business plan that will be used for obtaining investments from financial institutions or venture capitalists will be very detailed.
- And there are many different levels of detail in between these two extremes.
